That friend you don't really like but they pay you to hang out
Canada's main trading partner, almost sole trading partner is the United States. Our economies are so closely linked, wem use the relatively the same currency which hover around the same mark from day to day year to year. We use the same sizes for clothing and shoes. We have the same products but we have French labels on ours, making trade of these products impossible. This though preserves our French heritage and culture. We have the same MNC controlling us. When the US stock market crashed in 2008 the entire world economy slowed down, almost stopping. Canada did experience set backs, mostly in our auto industry because they're so linked with the U.S.
Canada survived the recession most than more countries because we are pretty independent. Canada can never distance it's self from the United States enough. As a country you should never be dependent on another.
Canada is already ensalved under the foreign rule of England politically so why do we need to be economically under the U.S.?
If the United States asks Canada to do something there is a very big chance that it wil be done. The Afghan war is the number one example of this. They asked us to go into Iraq too, and Vietnam. Thankfully Canada stood up enough to escape the 2 worst conflicts the United States have ever been involved in. But we still went into Afghanistan.
Most Americans also refuse to aknowledge that the Canadians burnt their white house down during the war of 1812, we also accepted they escaping loyalists during their Revolution and their draft dodgers during the Vietnam war.
Canada will always be Americans little friend that gets brought into so much stuff that they don't want to. America's hat

The United States are starting to lose they're super power status, in the near future it will completely disappear. Brazil, China or India will pick up the torch and our world will serverly change. The world we have grown to know will fall away and will be no more.
Each nation of this world must become independent with out bondage to any other nation. Each nation must stand up and demand that they be themselves.
misUNderstanding
The United Nations. So many thinks it's the best thing that man could have ever created, others the worst. the UN is useless. They do nothing. I will give them a couple of things, they ended small pox and they have better name than the League of Nations.
The power of veto that exists in the security council is horrible, it accomplish nothing. During the cold war the Soviets and the Americans would simple not allow anything that the other said. Now it can shut down imprtant issues.
The UN is supposed to protect every citizen of this earth but they don't, they don't even try. The Rwandan genocide was allowed to continue fort he 100 horrific days that it did. They could have ended it, but too much paper work and it was only tribal warfare in Africa.
The flooding in Bangladesh and Pakistan, the rape a minute in The Congo, the shanty towns or Rio de Janeiro. and countless other countries, the sex tourist industry on south east Asia. None of these issues have been fixed. Why? The UN is supposed to be the most powerful organization on this planet yet they refuse to help. they'll go in set up a refugee camp and leave. Kosovo's non member status in the UN can be viewed as a blessing for the UN.
The UN needs to step up and start doing what they've said they've done for the past 50 years.
Canada has always felt a special connect to the UN because of Lester B Pearson's creation of the UN peace keepers. Canada did not receive the seat on the security council that we felt so assured we owned this is a black spot on Canada's record.
The UN's first mission was the Korean war ( I mean police action) yet North Korea could release nuclear weapons at any moment.
The UN is uninvolved and useless.

NATO, not so.
I'm not a fan of Family Guy in any stretch but this is my favourite moment from the show. The quality is terrible.
NATO or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was an organization established in 1949 to stop the spread of communism in Europe. There are 16 member nations. They are, Belgium, Canada, Denmark,France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, The USA and at the time West Germany, which is now Germany.
Now that communism has ended in Europe NATO has reassigned its self to peacekeeping like missions.
The Soviets had their own version of NATO called the Warsaw Pact and was all Soviet Bloc Countries. They just mainly wanted to have a force to oppose the NATO ones, creating a sense of security for themselves.
A current NATO mission is the Canadian British, Australian, German, Australian troops stationed in Afghanistan. NATO can make quicker decisions than the UN making then easier to get into action.
Countries are not under UN principles allowed to attack fellow UN countries thus making ever war unlawful ( unless the Vatican is attacked) The NATO invasion of Afghanistan was unlawful and the attempted NATO collaboration attack on Iraq was even worse. (thought Saddam Hussein was a dictator that needed to be overthrown and the country liberated. it's simply the way they entered the country) You could have and they argued that the al-Qaeda bombings of the World Trade Centers are just enough cause to invade. But the one who confessed to organizing and allowing the attacks Osama bin Laden was found in Pakistan. Why did they not invade Pakistan then? And why were American troops in Pakistan in the firts place and how did they find him there? The entire operation doesn't make sense. I do not think killing him was a bad idea he killed thousands of American but American soldiers killing civilians for sport? How can you say that is just?
why did so many Canadian troops die in Afghanistan if bin Laden was in Pakistan? There is no denying that the NATO mission in Afghanistan has turned to a humanitarian one. The good that has been done in Afghanistan is amazing so much more good can be done. The Taliban are a new kind of enemy one that is not fought face to face but with desperate suicide bomber and road side bombs. You can't fight these things like we have before.
NATO has changed so much since its creation. Their values are relatively the same but the enemy is much different.

You will not find them so common anymore.
The commonwealth is fifty-one countries that all share a common origin of British monarchs. The goals of the Commonwealth are to promote equal education opportunities, improve healthcare and economic strength. Racial acceptance is another thing strove for by the Commonwealth. South Africa's introduction of apartheid caused the government to withdraw from the Commonwealth. South Africa was included again in 1994 with the removal of apartheid and creation of free elections. in 199 5 Nigeria was suspended for executing political prisoners, readmitted in 1999.
Every four years the Commonwealth games are held. These games are very much like a smaller scale Olympics including only athletes from Commonwealth countries. The last games were held in Delhi India and were ridden with improperly built facilities. The games have been held 4 times in Canada. In Hamilton(1930), Vancouver(1954), Edmonton(1978),and Victoria(1994). The games have had 4 different names. These names are, British Empire Games(1930-50), British Empire and Commonwealth Games(1954-1966) British Commonwealth Games (1970-74) and finally just the Commonwealth games from (1978 -present)
While the group is called the Commonwealth a common wealth is not shared. There are highly developed member countries, Canada, Australia and England but also third world countries, Sierra Leone, Mozambique and Bangladesh. Money and help are given to these countries but usually only in times of extreme need. An illusion of common wealth is promoted but it is only smoke and mirrors.
Yes the title of this post is a Princess Bride quote.

La Francophone who?
La Francophonie is an association of countries that speak French widely or, have French as an official language. There are forty-six member countries. The organization was founded in 1960. Thee main goal of la Francophonie is to guard French heritage and culture. La Francophonie is much like a French speaking Commonwealth. Developed countries in la Francophonie help developing member countries, through education, health, agriculture and other social and science programs.
Canada is a member of la Francophonie but two Canadian provinces are also, Quebec and New Brunswick. This allows those two provinces to cast cotes independently on matters of co-operation and development but not on political matters, only the national delegate can vote on those matters.

Immigration
The population of Quebec is about seven and a half million people, accounting for 22% of Canada's population. 125,095 people left Quebec for another province between 1996 and 2001, 64% went to Ontario. 11% went to B.C and 9% to Alberta. That last figure experienced an increase in 2005-2006 with the Alberta oil boom. 62,4320 people moved into Quebec from other provinces during the same 5 year period. 59% of those people came from Ontario but a fairly high number also came from British Columbia with 12% and New Brunswick with 10%.
Twenty percent of Montreal's population are immigrants. Quebec is witnessing a sudden growth of Middle Eastern immigrants, While Montreal has always been heavily Jewish and Italian other nationalities are being introduced. This up turn is causing issues that were never there before. Issues such as the controversy over women covering their heads and faces with religious garments such as the hijab.
